Working in films from the 1930s to the 1980s, he won an Academy Award for Best Music for An American in Paris (1951), Seven Brides for Seven Brothers (1954), and West Side Story (1961). He was also nominated for the award twice, for Kiss Me Kate (1953) and High Society (1956). Died: 11/15/1997
