Alice Ghostley

Born: 8/14/1928
Birthplace: Eve, Missouri

Actress adept at adding a comedic twist to roles on stage, film and television, she made her stage (New York City) and film debuts in New Faces (stage, 1952; film, 1954). She won three theatrical awards including the Tony for 1964's The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window, with which she went on tour in 1965. She continued in various stage roles, notably appearing as Miss Hannigan in the musical Annie (1977). She also appeared in films, including To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), The Graduate (1967), and Grease (1978), and television, with recurring roles in The Jackie Gleason Show (1962–64), Bewitched (1969–72), Mayberry R.F.D. (1970–71), Nichols (1971–72), and The Julie Andrews Show (1972–73).
