As an actor he starred in a number of successful movies including The Dirty Dozen (1967) and Rosemary's Baby (1968). As an independent filmmaker he made many groundbreaking movies with his wife, Gena Rowlands (married 1954–89), including Faces (1968), Minnie and Moskowitz (1971), and A Woman Under the Influence (1974). Died: 2/3/1989
