Best known for the classic feminist treatise, Le Deuxième Sexe (1949, The Second Sex), de Beauvoir also wrote fiction, philosophy, travelougues, essays, and autobiographies. With her lifelong companion, Jean-Paul Sartre, she founded and edited the monthly review, Le Temps Modernes. Died: 4/14/1986
