Merle Oberon (Estelle Merle O'Brien Thompson) actress Born: 2/19/1911 Birthplace: Bombay, India
Regal and stylish, Oberon played bit parts in the British film industry before her future husband, producer Alexander Korda, cast her in several costume dramas. Her first Hollywood film appearance, in The Dark Angel (1935), garnered an Oscar nomination. She delivered striking performances in the 1930s and early 1940s and is probably best remembered for her role opposite Laurence Olivier in Wuthering Heights (1939). Her career slowed in the 1950s, though she later appeared in The Oscar (1966) and Hotel (1967). Died: 11/23/1979
