Felicity Porter (Russell) abandons plans to enroll at Stanford when she learns her high-school crush (Speedman) is heading to a university in New York. She follows him there, only to find he's taken up with another coed. She takes on the Big Apple with new pals Julie (Johnson) and Noel (Foley) and chronicles her experiences in taped letters that she sends to confidant and former tutor (Garofalo).
