William Matthews poetBorn: 11/11/1942 Birthplace: Cincinnati, Ohio Awarded the National Book Critics Circle Award in 1995 for his book Time and Money: New Poems, Matthews produced several volumes of poetry and received a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim fellowship. His work relies on strong images to elicit feelings in his readers. His books include Ruining the New Road: Poems (1970), A Happy Childhood (1984), and Selected Poems and Translations, 1969–91 (1992).
