Henry Mancini pop composer Born: 4/16/1924 Birthplace: Cleveland, Ohio
A winner of Oscar and Grammy Awards, Mancini worked as a staff composer for Universal Pictures (1952–58), contributing music to more than 100 films. Later he achieved success as a composer, arranger, pop pianist, and guest conductor. His film credits include The Glenn Miller Story (1954), Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961), The Pink Panther (1963), and Victor/Victoria (1982). Mancini also wrote music for several TV series. He posthumously received the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences Lifetime Achievement Award (1994). Died: 6/14/1994
