Hugh Downs TV personality
Born: 2/14/1921
Birthplace: Akron, Ohio
Radio announcer who became a popular TV personality when he joined Jack Paar's The Tonight Show (1957–62). An erudite man who wowed audiences with his knowledge on a wide variety of subjects, Downs went on to host the daytime quiz show, Concentration, the Today show (1962–71) and the nighttime news magazine show, 20/20 (1978–1999).
