With a film like the blockbuster Titanic (1997) on his resume, the future looks promising for Paxton. But that was not always the case. Paxton struggled to land parts when he first arrived in Hollywood at 18, so he left to study the craft at New York University. There he met famed drama coach Stella Adler, with whose help he was cast in films like Aliens (1986), The Terminator (1984), Apollo 13 (1995), Twister (1996), A Simple Plan (1998)Mighty Joe Young (1998) and U-571 (2000).
