This labor of love from Italian director Rosi brings to film Primo Levi's poignant memoir of the Holocaust. As one of hundreds of Italian refugees liberated from Auschwitz, Levi (Turturro) must journey through desolate parts of post-War (but still war-torn) Eastern Europe before reaching his homeland. Turturro plays the depressed, but often wry Levi with grace.
