A gifted and accomplished actor, Mason first performed on stage and in film in England, where in the 1940s he became the country's most popular leading man. He came to Hollywood in 1949 and turned in superb performances in classics such as A Star Is Born (1954), Alfred Hitchcock's North by Northwest (1959), Stanley Kubrick's Lolita (1962), Georgy Girl (1966), The Verdict (1982), and The Shooting Party (1984). He was thrice nominated for an Oscar Died: 7/27/1984
