Waiting for Guffman

This gleeful mockumentary a lá Spinal Tap parts the curtains on Blaine, Missouri's sesquicentennial production. Led by swishy New York director Corky St. Clair (Guest), the ragtag troupe comprises Blaine's most earnest thespians, including a wisecracking dentist (Levy) and the Dairy Queen countergirl (Posey). When the company hears a New York critic will be among the opening night crowd, tension and excitement build with hilarious results for a gentle spoof of the Broadway Dream. The best part of the film? Corky's creation is almost — almost — good.
