Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais (Luchini) was a man of many talents. Not only was he a secret agent and a watchmaker, but he also wrote The Barber of Seville and The Marriage of Figaro. Given such a fascinating subject and era (late 18th-century France), one would expect an extraordinary tale, instead we get another lavish period piece that's more fluff than substance.
