Birthplace: Toowoomba, Australia
Academy Award-winning film and stage actor who was one of Australia's leading theater actors before establishing himself in feature films. He and Mel Gibson starred together in a Sydney, Australia performance of Waiting for Godot. He is best known for his Oscar-winning portrayal of mentally ill pianist David Helfgott in Shine (1996).
