The Chemical Brothers

Dig Your Own Hole

  • Astralwerks

Talk about bombing the bass. England's ultra-hot DJs/remix masters The Chemical Brothers launch a sensory assault that sounds like late-stage Armageddon on this follow-up to their 1995 debut. Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons take an aggressive approach to electronics, loading the techno side with massive rhythms, samples and wildly swirling, hypnotic layers on this 11-track set. From the first few seconds of the album opening “Block Rockin' Beats,” the frenzy reigns, driving from the Sly Stone-like funk of the title cut to the house-slamming lead single “Setting Sun,” which features Oasis's Noel Gallagher delivering a Revolver-era Beatles-esque lead vocal.
