One of the few young Cubans left who support Castro's socialist revolution, Gustavo (Lavan) has hope for a united Cuba. But his optimism erodes when his scholarship to a Prague university falls through, he starts to listen to his rebellious brother (Villaneuva), who injects himself with the AIDS virus as a political protest, and his girlfriend (Vilán) will only marry him if they leave Cuba.
