The Horseman on the Roof(1995)

A swashbuckling love story, set against the background of a deadly cholera epidemic in 1832. Exiled Italian freedom fighter Angelo Pardi (Martinez) is returning to his homeland, when he meets Pauline (Binoche), a countess searching for her husband amid the chaos of the deadly plague. Passions flare, but Angelo remains honorable to his married companion.
