Alice Walker author Born: 2/9/1944 Birthplace: Eatonton, Georgia
Pulitzer Prize-winning author whose novels and stories portray the hardships endured by Southern blacks. Her work includes Meridian (1976), In Love and Trouble (1973), and The Color Purple (1982), which was filmed in 1985. In 2003, Absolute Trust in the Goodness of the Earth: New Poems was published, her first collection of poems in more than a decade.
