Nobel and Pulitzer Prize -winning playwright whose plays portray tormented families and people torn between wealth and noble ideals. His plays include Beyond the Horizon (1920), Anna Christie (1921), Strange Interlude (1928) and the semi-autobiographical Long Day's Journey Into Night (1956).
