Emmy Award-winning television and stage actor best known for his portrayal of the bigot Archie Bunker on All in the Family (1971–79), one of television's most successful shows. He also appeared in Archie Bunker's Place (1979–83) and In the Heat of the Night (1988–92).

Died: Culver City, Calif., 6/21/2001
