Pop-punk singer, actress and songwriter known for her strong, emotional vocals, volatile behavior on- and offstage and for being the widow of Kurt Cobain of the band Nirvana. She is the singer in the band Hole, whose recordings include Pretty on the Inside (1991) and the critically acclaimed Live Through This (1994). She has appeared in several films, including starring roles in The People vs. Larry Flint (1996), Man on the Moon (1999), Julie Johnson (2001), and as narrator for the documentary Clara Bow: Discovering the It Girl (1999) .
