Academy Award -winning film and television actress known for her distinctive appearance and voice, as well as for roles as troubled women. She earned a reputation for toughness as a result of battling studio boss Jack Warner. Her films include Dangerous (1935), Jezebel (1938) and Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? (1962). Died: 10/6/1989
