His recordings, known for their witty lyrics and blues-influenced guitar, include “Maybellene” (1955), “Roll Over, Beethoven” (1956) and “Johnny B. Goode” (1958). He appeared in the films Rock, Rock, Rock (1956) and Go, Johnny, Go (1959).
