Academy Award-winning film and stage actress known for her freshfaced, innocent appeal first on stage in My Fair Lady (1956) and then in films, including Mary Poppins (1964) and The Sound of Music (1965). She created a controversy in 1996 when she tried to withdraw her name from the Tony Award ballot for her role in Victor/Victoria. Her latest TV and screen work is geared toward younger audiences: The Princess Diaries (2001) and The Princess Diaries 2 (2004), Eloise at the Plaza and Eloise at Christmastime (both 2003), and as the voice of Queen Lillian in Shrek 2 (2004) and Shrek 3 (2007).
