Rocky (1976)

Director: John G. Avildsen
Cast: Sylvester Stallone, Talia Shire, Burt Young, Carl Weathers and Burgess Meredith

Stallone's intense portrayal of the punk fighter with a once-in-a-lifetime shot at the world heavyweight title carried this classic rags-to-ringside tale to a Best Picture Oscar and four sequels and handily established Sly's star power.
