Samuel Goldwyn (Samuel Goldfish) film producer Born: 7/1879 Birthplace: Warsaw, Poland
After emigrating to America at age 13 and a brief career in glovemaking and sales, he partnered with Cecil B. DeMille to found his first film company in 1916. His second company, the Goldwyn Pictures Corp. later merged with Metro and the firm founded by Louis B. Mayer to become Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. He continued to produce pictures independent of MGM, including Wuthering Heights (1939), Guys and Dolls (1955), and the Academy Award-winning The Best Years of Our Lives (1947). Died: 1/31/1974
