Sir Rudolf Bing former general manager of the Metropolitan Opera
Bing, who ran the Met from 1950 to 1972, revolutionized the opera house by hiring African Americans Leontyne Price and Marian Anderson, as well as some of the world's most highly regarded directors and decorators. He also orchestrated the Met's 1962 move to Lincoln Center. Born: 1902 Died: 1997
