Willie Pep

Age: 84

boxer who was the featherweight champion for most of the 1940s; his lifetime record was 230–11–1. Known for his speed and dexterity, he deliberately won a round in 1949 without landing a single punch; he won by knockout five rounds later.

Died: Rocky Hill, Conn., Nov. 23, 2006
