Bulent Ecevit

Age: 81

Turkish politician who served four terms as prime minister. He was elected to the parliament in 1957, and held multiple positions over the following decades. A leftist nationalist for most of his career, he formed a coalition with a right-wing party for his final term as prime minister in 1999, and veered toward supporting free enterprise and closer ties to the West.

Died: Ankara, Turkey, Nov. 5, 2006
