Red Auerbach

Age: 89

voted the greatest coach in N.B.A. history by the Professional Basketball Writers Association of America in 1980. As coach, he led the Boston Celtics to nine championships, including eight in a row from 1959 to 1966. He added six more as general manager and one as club president.
