Tom Cruise, actor and producer, engaged in a very nasty and public parting of ways with his studio, Paramount Pictures. Sumner Redstone, the chairman of Paramount's parent company, Viacom, announced the breakup in August, citing Cruise's recent erratic behavior. “It's nothing to do with his acting ability, he's a terrific actor,” Redstone said. “But we don't think that someone who effectuates creative suicide and costs the company revenue should be on the lot.” Cruise's films with Paramount have grossed $2.5 billion over a 14-year period.
