Joe Rosenthal

Age: 94

photographer who captured on film one of the most enduring images of World War II—the picture of five U.S. soldiers raising an American flag at the summit of Mount Suribachi on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima. The photograph earned Rosenthal a Pulitzer Prize and was reproduced as a bronze sculpture near Arlington National Cemetery.
