Elisabeth Schwarzkopf

Age: 90

German-born lyric soprano known for her luminous interpretations of works by Strauss and Mozart. Her reputation—she earned international fame and acclaim—suffered when she admitted that she was a member of the Nazi party and performed for Nazi troops. Her nephew is retired U.S. Army General Norman Schwarzkopf.

Died: Schruns, Austria, Aug. 3, 2006
