Catherine Leroy

Age: 60

French-born photographer who covered the wars in Vietnam, Somalia, Afghanistan, Iraq, and Libya, taking raw photos that captured the agony of battle. Her pictures appeared in Life, Look, and TIME magazines. She won several awards, including the prestigious George Polk Award.

Died: Santa Monica, Calif., July 8, 2006
