Syd Barrett

Age: 60

singer and songwriter who was an original member of the band Pink Floyd and conceived the band's experimental, psychedelic sound and effects. He wrote most of the songs on the group's first album, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Barrett, who named the band after the blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council, left Pink Floyd in 1968 after a breakdown attributed to LSD use.

Died: Cambridgeshire, England, July 7, 2006
