Lloyd Bentsen

Age: 85

pro-business politician who served in both houses of Congress, as chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, and as Secretary of the Treasury under President Clinton. As the Democratic nominee for vice president in the 1988 election, he delivered one of the most memorable lines of the campaign. When Sen. Dan Quayle compared himself to John F. Kennedy during a debate, Bentsen said, “I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you're no Jack Kennedy.”

Died: Houston, Texas, May 23, 2006
