Katie Couric,

broadcast journalist, became the anchor of CBS Evening News in September. Many critics questioned if Couric, who is known for her sunny personality, has the gravitas to assume the anchor seat previously occupied by Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather. Couric had been the co-anchor of NBC's Today since 1991. Her salary at CBS is about $15 million a year.
