Nam June Paik Age: 73
artist, known as “the father of video art,” who created the video synthesizer, which can paint screens, produce images, and reverse images on a video monitor. In his large-scale exhibitions, Paik used as many as 300 television monitors to display his comic and often radical experimental works. Died: Miami Beach, Fla., Jan. 29, 2006
