Tom DeLay,

politician, abandoned plans to resume his position as House majority leader in January, shortly after his close friend, disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff, agreed to testify to federal prosecutors in a corruption investigation. DeLay himself was indicted by a Texas grand jury in 2005 for allegedly violating the state's election laws. He announced his resignation from Congress in April, and officially stepped down in June.
