John Johnson Age: 85
entrepreneur who built a publishing empire that now includes Ebony and Jet magazines and made him one of America's wealthiest people. The grandson of slaves, Johnson started his business in 1942 with a $500 loan. Ebony now has a circulation of 1.6 million. Died: Chicago, Aug. 8, 2005
