James Stockdale

Age: 81

U.S. Navy vice admiral who won the Medal of Honor in 1976. He was captured by the North Vietnamese in 1965 and imprisoned for more than seven years, enduring repeated torture and four years of solitary confinement. He was H. Ross Perot's vice presidential running mate in 1992.

Died: Cornonado, Calif., July 5, 2005
