Li PoLi Bo
Born: c. 700
Li Po is considered the greatest poet of the Tang Dynasty, China’s “middle period,” during which literature flourished. His poetry is often associated with the moon and wine, two of his pet subjects; his best-known poem is called “Drinking Alone under the Moon.” However, Li Po’s imagery was inspired by the breadth of nature and a variety of landscapes, both real and imaginary. About 1,100 of his poems remain. Many westerners were introduced to the poetry of Li Po through Ezra Pound’s translations.
