Bernard Ebbers, former chief executive of WorldCom, a telecommunications giant, was found guilty in March of conspiracy, securities fraud, and seven counts of filing false reports. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in July. Ebbers's manipulation of the books to hide lagging sales amounted to a record fraud of $11 billion.
