Max Schmeling

Age: 99

German heavyweight-boxing champion who in 1936 gave Joe Louis his first-ever defeat. The 1938 rematch was filled with charged political overtones, and Louis's first-round knockout win was considered a symbolic victory against Nazi Germany.
