Faure Gnassingbé,

Togalese politician, outraged many in the international community in February, when he was installed as president by the military after the death of his father, President Gnassingbé Eyadéma. Violent protests and street demonstrations followed, and neighboring countries threatened sanctions. Gnassingbé stepped down about three weeks later, calling for an interim president until elections could be held in April. He then won that election and was reinstalled as president, amid claims of vote fraud and widespread rioting.
