Paul Nitze

Age: 97

public official and nuclear expert who for more than 40 years was highly influential in shaping U.S. policy toward the Soviet Union. He was a member of the U.S. delegation to the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks and helped to negotiate the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty. He also served as Secretary of the Navy and Deputy Secretary of Defense.
