Jack Idema, vigilante, was convicted in September of entering Afghanistan illegally, operating an illegal jail, and taking hostages and torturing them. He was sentenced to 10 years in jail. Idema, a former Green Beret, said he was working for a secret counterterrorism unit sanctioned by the Pentagon. The Pentagon denied the claim. Brent Bennett and Edward Caraballo were also convicted and received sentences of 8 and 10 years, respectively.
