Margaret Murie

conservationist who championed the preservation of wilderness. Murie and her husband Olaus successfully campaigned for the creation of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and the Wilderness Act. President Clinton awarded her the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1998.

Died: Moose, Wyo., Oct. 19, 2003
