playwright and novelist whose Pulitzer-Prize–winning play The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds recounted growing up in a troubled home dominated by a paranoid mother. He wrote young adult novels The Pigman and Confessions of a Teenage Baboon. Died: Manhattan, March 27, 2003
